Happy Monday! I hope everyone had as lovely as a weekend as I did (despite the weather here in Boston) whats up with this? I thought April showers bring May flowers? I guess we’ll have to wait for June…Well despite the weather I had a wonderful weekend. I went to some great restaurants, spent time with some great friends, got a little busy in the kitchen and tried some new products! I will get to everything, don’t you worry.
First I want to talk about a “new to me” bread that I discovered. This bread is called “P28 High Protein Bread” This bread is higher in protein and all natural. It was created by three brothers who were passionate about health and fitness and wanted to formulate a bread that complimented their hard work in the gym but also tasted great
I just came across this bread reading some fitness blogs and it looked good so I found it on netrition.com. I decided to just order 1 loaf because if I didn’t like it I didn’t want to be stuck with frozen P28 bread in my freezer!
These are the stats for 1 slice of bread.
- 14g protein
- 12g Carbs
- 2g fiber
- 3.5g fat
- 215mg sodium
- 130 calories
- 30 calories from fat
- 3g sugar
As soon as I opened up the bag, it looked like bread, smelled like bread and had the consistancy of bread which is HUGE. I have tried these so called “high protein breads” before and the one thing I cannot stand is that they smell and have zero similarites with real bread. To me, this just felt and smelled like a loaf of whole wheat bread! I love that the crust is sprinkled with raw oats too
I decided to make P28 Protein French Toast!
In the bowl:
- 1/4 C liquid eggwhites
- 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 T Truvia (or other sweetner would work as well)
- splash of vanilla extract
- few shakes of cinnamon and nutmeg
- Splash of water
In went the P28 bread. I let each side soak for a few minutes to really absorb all of the eggy, chocolatey goodness
Into the pan it went for about 3-4 minutes each side. I like mine a tiny bit on the more cooked/burnt side so I left it longer–if you like your french toast more doughy and less crispy, just leave it there for less time
When it was all done, I began to assemble the final product
Topped with:
- 1/2 C 0% Greek yogurt (mixed with cinnamon)
And I think I have a new favorite snack. I have made this same exact snack 3 times since Friday. Yeah, I get obsessed with food when I discover something new, but I’m not sick of it yet! I HIGHLY recommend this bread if you are looking for a higher protein/lower carb type of bread. It is all natural and delicious! Of course this recipe can be made with any type of bread–wheat, sourdough, Ezekial, you name it!
P28 also makes bagels which I so want to try soon!
Go for it.

On Saturday, I met up with some Savage girls for lunch at Prana Cafe. I have been here before with my mom. You can read about it here. That was back in 2009 and I hadn;t been back since. (after I went on Saturday I had NO idea why it took me so long to go back!) I basically have a new obsession for raw food.
Let me back up…Prana Cafe is a 100% raw restaurant. That means everything served inside the restaurant is well…raw. I was a little skeptical at first when I went back in 2009–would I be full because the lack of meat and protein? Would it taste good? Would it be bland? Well let me tell you, this is some of not only the most beautiful food I have ever eaten, but the most delicious. Every bite I took I was mesmerized by how delicious it was.
The tables were scattered with beautiful, simple heart shaped pieces that had very “zen” like quotes.
We decided to start out with some fresh juice. I split the “Taylors Green Lemonade” with a friend, Katy.
You know we got a couple of orders of kale chips!
After a little while of chatting with the girls over how happy we were to be experiencing this raw food dining, our green lemonades arrived!
Enjoying our first sip of raw, green lemonade! It was amazing. The coconut nectar was just sweet enough and it was not at all too heavy. It was a delightful “appetizer” to our meal. Normally, I am not a huge fan of juices, but you know what they say “when in Rome” and I was so glad that we ordered it because it was truly incredible. After ever sip I took, I discovered a new flavor explosion.
Some of the other ladies ordered the “Keep It Simple” Which was simply ginger, carrot and apple. It was great as well but a bit heavy on the ginger, so they ended up diluting it with some iced water.
After perusing the menu for what seemed like about a half hour, I decided to go with the “Sushi” It sounded so interesting and I knew it would be fun to eat!
But before our meals came out, we had to try some appetizers! We ordered some kale chips which were nothing like the kale chips I make at home (these were made in a dehydrator) They were salty, delicious, crunchy and covered in sesame seeds which added a fun new flavor I hadn’t ever tried before on mine!
Our other appetizer was the Flax Crackers and Guacamole. These crackers were made soley from flax, nuts and seeds. The salsa was clearly made in house as well as the guacamole.
How gorgeous is this?
Next up–the banana bowl! This was two bananas topped with homemade almond butter which had a pinch of sea salt in it. The bananas were drizzled with honey and fresh berries. Pretty self explanatory but still–so delicious
The combo of bananas and nut butter will always be a staple ‘go to’ snack in my book!
Katy went with the “Tacos” The shells were made with chia seeds and they bent, just like real tortillas! It was topped with Guacamole, Marinated Vegetables, Shredded Romaine, “Sour Cream,”and Salsa
Jen went with the “Pizza”The base was made with a combination of nuts and seeds and the “cheese” was as well. It was topped with portabello mushrooms, microgreens and kalamata olives. Out of this world
And here is my sushi! Nori rolls surrounded the amazingly beautiful and tasty insides. The “rice” was made of turnips and was surrounded by cashew “cream” There were carrots and romaine lettuce inside as well.
I could not stop taking pictures of the food at Prana Cafe. Every bite, I literally had to sit back and think what I was eating and how it could taste so good!
Katy’s Taco’s up close
See, they bent!!
Oh man, I cannot wait to go back! We all left feeling satisfied, and not stuffed at all. All of the food is made to order, so in between our courses we had about a half hour. The whole lunch was about a 2 hour process, so it wasn’t as if all of that food came out all at once. It was a leisurely, beautiful amazing experience. It’s just so nice to slow down once in a while and truly enjoy the foods and friends you are with.
I really want to get into experimenting with raw cooking. I emailed Averie, because well, she is the queen of raw food! I have so much I want to learn and taste and try–if anyone has suggestions of ‘beginner’ raw recipes or even raw food blogs, please email me or leave them in the comment section.

And completely onto another subject, but I got my photo shoot pictures back and here is a sneak peak of some of them! ENJOY!
Question of the day: Have you ever experienced with a totally “new to you” type of cuisine? What was it and what did you like about it?
