FAP Boston Recap 1

Hey! Sorry to keep you all waiting, I know some of you probably want to know how my show went, right? Maybe not, but here I am with some updates…not all of the updates…but some!
The show was so much fun and actually relaxing! and I say that because it was actually so un-stressful, we had plenty of time to get ready, PLENTY of space backstage and I loved the intimate venue.

At my first show, this was a much bigger event. There were about 200-220 total competitors at my first show. It was crazy, busy (FUN!) but really crowded and at times a bit overwhelming. For my first show I would not have wanted it any other way because I was there with all of my girlfriends backstage, helping, supporting, motivating and inspiring. I didn’t even go into my first show looking at it as a ‘competition’ I went into it as more of hitting my personal goal of competing. I loved every second of my first show experience!

Now fast forward to this show. I competed in the same federation, FAP (Fitness America Pageant) however this was the very first time that this federation held a show in Boston, Ma. We were all somewhat of guinea pigs testing out the waters to see the turn out and to see if this will continue in the upcoming years.
The tanning was done all on my own (with the help my my lovely mother) I found there is NO need to spend money on someone tanning me when it is really so simple. I purchased Jan Tana Competition “Hi Definition” tan online. It was about $32 and it lasts for about 4 coats. (I have a ton left over!) It was so easy…just like painting! I applied one coat at around 6pm. Then another one around 8pm. Then in the morning before the show, applied one more coat and I was good to go!

Back to to the show itself…
So instead of 200 total competitors, there were only about 50 or 60 total competitors…clearly a MUCH smaller show, right?
These were all of the fabulously glamorous competitors! (I am 5th in from the right side bottom row)
I hit the road bright and early on Sunday morning for my hair and make up appointment. Everything was beautiful. I was so pleased with how it came out! This year they kept the eyes on most of the competitors very neutral with gray and silver tones rather than trying to match colors to the suits which can sometimes look funny from far away. I loved the silver tones and of course the fake eyelashes make everyones eyes POP!
This is a picture of the stage from the competitors meeting while sitting in the audience.

And here are some pictures from the actual show!

The way the show ran:
First there was the sportswear division in which we all wear our “theme” wear. My theme was the same as in my last show which was “Bollywood”
There I am on the right.
Next up was the bikini round in which we wear our traditional (I use that word loosely) bikini’s on stage.  I am number 77 in the middle in the picture below

I placed 5th in my category! See the gal in the middle holding the trophy way up in the air? Yeah, thats one of dear friends, Leigha and she did beyond amazing. She competed for her first time in the Fitness Round, and PLACED 1st!! She also came in 1st in the bikini short round and then on top of that placed 1st in bikini overall! When she walks on stage, you cannot keep your eyes off of her. One goal of mine is to work on my stage presence and I look up and admire Leigha and her grace and beauty on stage.
Leigha in her fitness routine. Another amazing fun fact about this gal? She is the designer of most all of the sportswear you see on the stage. Her company, Leigha Marie Designs custom designs bikini, sportswear and beach bikini’s. She made my bollywood suit as well as the suit you see in the above picture. If you are a competitor and in need of a new suit, or a total newbie and want to check out her site, in my opinion there is no other way to go!
Me and my beautiful friend, Amy who placed 2nd!

The show was so fun filled with no stress or questions. Everything from start to finish ran so smoothly and it was so nice to be at a more intimate venue. I have the BEST team, most amazing coaches and so much incredible support which makes the whole journey that much more enjoyable and rewarding.

I have been getting questions already up the wazoo if I am competing again, if I am thinking about competing in another category. My quick answer right now is Yes I am competing again and no not in another category, but I do not know when. I need to take a bit of a competition break. I will not be competing in any more shows this year and I really want to take the ‘off season’ to work on my upper body. I want to play around with my workouts and nutrition.

Competing is an amazing experience, but the prep can take a big toll on many parts of ones life. If you compete you know exactly what I mean in that close to a show, you find yourself a bit of a hermit. The energy is lacking, the food decreases, you may get cranky, however when you hit that stage, all of these thoughts disappear and this is why we compete. It is truly something I love to do. Many people ask why I do it and I get no money from it. Why do I do it? Because I truly enjoy it. I love having a goal, I love the incredible friendships I have formed with the women I have met along the way. I love being a part of something so incredibly motivating and inspiring. I do it because I love it and thats my answer

I have many more pictures and also more things to talk about but for now, I just wanted to give you all a brief update from the show this past weekend.

The tweets, facebook posts, emails etc I have recieved is beyond words. I cannot express to all of you how much each and every comment I get means to me. You are all so amazing and by far one of the biggest motivators thats keeps me going

Oh and how could I forget one of the best parts?
My sandwich!! This is seriously the only thing I wanted. I got the most amazing sandwich at one of my favorite restaurants, Zaftigs. This was turkey, avocado, sprouts, tomato, cranberry chutney on grilled and buttered pumpernickle bread. I never want anything too heavy post show because my body is very depleated and anything too heavy will make me sick. Last show, I went with a sandwich as well and it was perfect. Honestly, the only thing I wanted was a hearty meal that involved bread. I got it. It was delicious and just what I wanted!

XOXOXO
