10 New Mouthwatering Protein Shake Recipes

Hey Hey!
I get numerous requests to post some of my favorite on-the-go recipes. Things that are fast, easy to make, packed with tons of heart healthy nutrients and super easy to make. I have decided to put together a list of my favorite protein shakes. I have made each of these at one time or another. You may not have all of the ingredients, so feel free to play around! If you don’t have flax oil or coconut oil, find substitutions!  When it comes to making protein shakes, it’s all about trial and error. If it sounds good–try it!

Here are 10 of my favorites! Let me know what you think!

The Elvis
** This shake is great pre workout! The energy from the banana and healthy fats from the nut butter will give you energy to sustain your workout!

  • 1/2 Banana (ripened or frozen)
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1/2 C almond milk
  • 1/2 C water
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1T all natural peanut or almond butter
  • 2T unsweetened cocoa powder

Vanilla Cherry Bomb
**This shake is great post workout! Cherries help to reduce muscle soreness, inflammation and aid in recovery. The quick sugar in the honey is a great source of carbohydrates post workout. During a workout, blood glucose levels drop because your muscles use the glucose for energy. In order to replenish those loss glycogen stores, and a quick carbohydrate such as honey gets into your system FAST,  replenishing the muscles. You will set your body up for quicker recovery and muscle growth!

  • 1/3C frozen cherries
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1 cup water (or 1/2 almond milk, 1/2 water)
  • 1T honey or agave

Key Lime Pie Protein Shake
***Key lime pie is my all time favorite dessert. While I don’t get to eat it as often as I would like, this protein packed shake is a great way to get all of the flavor of the pie *figure friendly* 🙂

  • 1/2C low fat cottage cheese
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1/2 C water (may need a bit more to get everything moving)
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1-2 packets stevia **Optional

Mocha Cinnamon Delight
**Like coffee? Like Chocolate? This one is for you! I call this a healthified coffee frappuccino

  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein
  • 1T instant ground coffee (decaf or regular)
  • 1/2T cinnamon
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 C unsweetened almond milk
  • 1T unsweetened cocoa powder

Sleep Tight Chocolate Trimmer
*** This shake is make with Casein protein powder which is a slower digesting protein (also found in cottage cheese). The amino acids in the casein will slowly release to your muscles  (whereas whey will provide a quick burst of amino acids to your muscles) Casein is a great choice beforebed because the steady release of protein is great while you sleep!  The addition of flax oil is a great Omega-3 healthy fat to aid in muscle growth and recovery while you are tucked away!

  • 1 scoop chocolate Casein protein powder
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1T unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1T  coconut flax oil (I buy Royal Harvest brand)
  • 1C water (more or less depending on the consistancy you enjoy)

Peppermint Patty Protein Power
***This protein shake is packed with vitamins from the cucumber and spinach, not to mention makes it a beautiful shade of green! I love this shake on a hot summer day. It is refreshing, light and super delicious

  • 1/2 C plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 3/4 C water
  • 1 large handful of spinach or kale
  • 1 small persian cucumber
  • 1 packet stevia (optional)
Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake
***This is an oldie but a goodie! I posted this recipe back in 2011, but it is by far one of my favorites!! This is a great shake post workout due to the carbs from the pumpkin, squash or sweet potato (whichever you choose!) It is fall inspired, yes but c’mon…its perfect year round!
  • 1 scoop vanilla or cinnamon whey protein
  • 1 serving which is 4 0z sweet potato or butternut squash) or canned pure pumpkin (I cook and freeze the sweet potato and butternut squash and throw it in the shake frozen!

  • 1-2 packets of stevia or 2 tsp agave (optional)
  • 1/2 C unsweetened almond milk
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1/2-1 C water (depending on how thick you want your shake)
Top O’ The Morning Oats n’ Banana Shake
***This is a great alternative when you don’t have time to sit and enjoy a hot bowl of oatmeal. This shake has complex carbs from the rolled oats and sweet flavor from the banana and blueberries. This s certainly one of my favorite breakfasts ‘on-the-go’
  • 1/2 C liquid egg whites (pasturized so they do not need to be cooked)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/4 C frozen or fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 C rolled oats

Crazy for a Coconutty Chocolate Delight Shake
***The first time I made this, I had no idea what it would taste like! I was so pleasantly surprised! It reminded me a bit of a liquid almond joy candy bar. The chocolate is not overpowering and there is still a strong flavor coming through from the coconut. Get in all of your healthy fats from the flax oil! Enjoy this one!

Vanilla Green Tea Energizer Shake
***This one sounds interesting but I promise if you like vanilla and green tea it is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up! The addition of coconut oil will give you healthy fats and some staying power to keep you satisfied!

  • 6oz pre made green tea
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1 C water or almond milk or other milk of your choice
  • handful of spinach or kale
  • 1T coconut oil

These are awesome recipes and thanks for putting them together! Smoothies with cherries are the BEST. I have a can of pumpkin that I need to use, so I’m going to whip up a pumpkin smoothie tomorrow after yoga. Have a great night! XOXO
