Fun and Sun in Florida!

Hi Everyone! Reporting to you from Sunny Florida. Currently I am  sitting by the pool at my grandparents house in Boca Raton and it is georgeous! This has been the best ‘getaway’ The vacation started with a bright and early flight at 6am from Boston. There was word of a big storm that was happening around that time, so the flight acutally left a bit early to get us out before the storm-we certainly made it! The plane was empty, I had a whole row to myself-saawwweeeet. one thing that was Not so saaawweeet was that they took my overnight oats away from me at security!! it was considered a ‘liquid’ and it was taken, I was so mad, I had made the best breakfast, but I had to give it up, *sighhh*

I purchased this ‘perfect oatmeal’ from Starbucks and Jazzed it up, OneFitFoodie style

They sold Chobani at the airport (Score!) and I had a banana and Justins AB packet. I turned it into one delicious Breakfast!
Some reading material + TV on Jet blue and the flight Flew by! (no Pun intended)
Finally, sun and sand, no snow and cold. We were staying for one night at a marriot right on the Ft Lauderdale strip. The rooms are also time shares so they have a full kitchen-it looked like an apartment! The hotel also had a little store to buy starbucks and some groceries.
Lots of processed groceries that is, We found a publix later that night and got some healthy snacks and food for breakfast the next morning.
Coffee’s were needed, as it was 10:00am and we were already up for 6 hours!
Our Pool.

Yes, you need to turn your head a bit, but this was our hotel!
Lunch time was on the strip at a restaurant called “cafe del mar”

The Greek Salad was calling my name. I love eating refreshing salads in heat like this!
I got it with grilled chicken and my mom got it with grilled shrimp. She gave me one!
They were so big, juicy and delicious. Being as it is winter in Boston, I forgot how good fresh seafood tastes. It was amazing.

That night we knew we were going to go to a restaurant called “Season’s 52” Has anyone ever heard of this before? It is AMAZING. Everytime we come to Florida for a few days, one night is always dinner at Seasons 52
About the restaurant: Seasons 52 is a fresh grill and wine bar that invites guests to discover the sensational flavors of a seasonally-inspired menu and award-winning international wine list in a casually-sophisticated ambiance.
At Seasons 52, we pride ourselves on offering our guests:
  • Seasonally-inspired dining choices expertly designed to excite and surprise the palate
  • An award-winning international wine list featuring diverse wine selections that personalize the dining experience
  • Knowledgeable, approachable service that inspires confidence
  • A casually-sophisticated adult ambiance that feels inviting

Lit up raindeer on our way to the restaurant! It was HUGE, this picture does it no justice, but I thought it was amazing especially at night time.

We started with the spinach salad: with fresh sliced seasonal pears, toasted pine nuts and crumbled blue cheese

Flatbread Pizza: with balsamic red onions, Grlilled chicken, roasted red peppers and Mozzarella cheese

As I was taking the first picture, my mom tried to hold it up to me, and the whole pizza slid off the board that it was served on right onto the table! *Ahhh, the life of a blogger, taking pictures of food*

**Have any of you ever had a food/photo/blooper while trying to take a picture of your food for your blog??*

I got the special which was grilled swordfish ponzu served atop steamed veggies and jasmine rice. I got double veggies and no rice. The veggies were amazingly perfect. There was brocolli, squash, yellow beets, carrot and red pepper. The swordfish cut like butter it was so tender and delicious, topped with a sweet and savory sauce and sesame seeds. I also loved that it was accompanied with pickled ginger!
My mom got grilled sea scallops served with pearl pasta and asparagus. I have gotten this dish before at Seasons and it was truly mouth watering!
–We love seasons for many reasons (1) All the dishes are under 475 calories, which means semi guilt free (2) Nothing is cooked in butter, oil or too salty (3) everything is fresh, delicious and mouthwatering (4) You never leave feeling too full, which I love! (5) the prices are reasonable
–PLEASE BRING ONE TO BOSTON!!!!
—————————
The next morning Started out with a 30 minute run along the beach. It was truly incredible. The fact I can just hit the pavement and go for a run in December is so refreshing.  I made a few realizations about running outside. It is MUCH harder to run outside than on thr treadmill. Banging out 4 or 5 miles on the treadmill is a piece of cake for me, but running for 30 mintes outside-I was huffing and puffing and it was much more challenging. I need to run outside more to prepare myself for my goal of running a half marathon next year!
*Do any of you find that running outside is MUCH harder than running on the threadmill?? Why do you think this is?**

Our kitchen in the room in which we made our breakfast!
Berry berry oats with a dollop of pb and half banana. Topped with cinnamon! MMMM (Coffee as well)
Off to the beach, and took this apple butt for a snack, as well as a string cheese

It was the funniest apple!! Delicious, ambrosia, but still quite funny looking, do you agree?
Some reading material. Good book, I need to get more into it, but good so far! very easy, ‘beach’ read
and this, it just never ends!

We got delicious Rosemary marinated salads with feta, tomatoes, and red onion and took them to-go to eat on the beach!

—So far, so good! I am at my grandparents right now and having a great time, I got a bit sunburnt yesterday so I am sunscreened up today! I already went for another run this morning, 33 minutes. Felt good! I just wanted to check in and say HI!!! Hope you are all having a great week! TGIF

**Best thing you have eaten in the past few days?**
**Spandex or shorts for working out?**

Looks like you are having a great time in the heat (jealous!)
Spandex usually-like capris for working out.
No idea what the best thing I have eaten in the last few days is. Probably sugar cookies!

I’m so glad you got a chance to post! I am so jealous. It is like 2degrees here right now. I want the beach!! I’ve read about Seasons 52 on Fitnessista for awhile. I wish we would get one here, too!!!

  3. greensandjeans says:

First, so jealous of your vacation! Second, I love spandex. As a cyclist, I totally embrace it. When I’m running I wear whatever I pull out of the drawer, but in the colder months I wear spandex capris or tights. I heart the span.

  4. Jenny says:

words can not express how jealous I am! and I see you are managing to keep up with your amaze eats as well. Feel free to send some sunshine and warmth my way 😉 It’s 11 degrees here.. wah!

Enjoy the rest of your trip, girlie!

I want to come!! That restaurant sounds amazing! I love that all the dishes are under 475 calories! Bring one to NY too!

Hmm..I dropped my camera in a pot of water because of blogging!

Wow, sounds like you’re having a blast!!! The weather looks fantastic, and who doesn’t love palm trees??? That sucks about the oatmeal, but I love how you were still able to whip up a delicious breakfast with what you had available.

That restaurant sounds fantastic! The food looks so good!

    Keep enjoying your getaway!

Ohhh I’m so jealous!!!!! Seriously, no fair!! Well, I’m glad you are having a great time. Looks like you’ve made some fantastic food finds!

Food discoveries for me this week; Sweet potato soup. Not as good as I thought it would be, but I also discovered cinnamon ice cream! Even though I only had a bit, it was awesome.

    Shorts, for sure.

Sounds like a wonderful time! I love all the sunshine 🙂

I hate working out in shorts and much prefer my stretch yoga pants.

Best thing I ate…the batter from my espresso brownies.

    Enjoy your weekend!

wow I am so jealous right now…I am sitting in my office freezing my bum off as I read about your fabulous trip lol…

The best thing I ate in the past few days will have to be my din din from last night; Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Cranberry and Apple Sauce…yuuuums

I think running outside is harder because the concrete is rougher on your body and also you might not be used to the heat if you normally run on a treadmill with an AC pumping

Enjoy the rest of your vaca!

I’m so jealous of you right now. It’s freezing in Boston today!

Your hotel looks like it’s in a great spot and Seasons 52 sounds fabulous.

I am so jealous right now! I live in Vegas but it is still in the 30’s. I would love to be laying out by the pool. Sounds like you’re having a great time!

I totally agree about running outside versus on the treadmill. I was feeling so confident about how long I have been able to go on the treadmill and recently ran outside with some buddies and nearly died! It definitely takes some getting used to.

I sooo wish I was in sunny Florida – it’s absolutely freezing in NY! I don’t really like working out in shorts, I def prefer my spandex pants or capris. Best thing I ate in the past few days was chocolate pudding!

  16. Jil says:

Ahhh so jealous that you’re in FL right now!! It’s currently 21 degrees in Boston…just thought I’d let you know what you were missing out on. hahaha 🙂 All of the food looks amazinnnng!

  17. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says:

running outside i think is harder b/c of wind, slight inclines/declines you dont know you’re even doing, the scenery, dodging people, just keeping your wits about you basically, takes more energy than a boring run on a hamster wheel 🙂 never underestimate mother nature’s pull, too. wind, heat, etc.

    food bloppers all the time

but can i say PROPS for taking all those food shots in a restaurant. Girl, i have never done that yet…not something I can see myself doing either. I think it’s awesome everyone else does though 🙂

  18. glidingcalm says:

for cardio-shorts, for pilates- SPANDEX! i lived in spandex when I was competitively figure skating and coaching, so I’m used to it!!!

your pool looked amazing!!! boy could i use some of that weather right now!!!

i have always wanted to go to seasons 52!! that meal looks delicious!!

love the salad action!! can’t go wrong with some feta and grilled shrimpies!!!! 😀

and CHOBANI?! AT THE AIRPORT?! we are moving on up!!

take care lady! have a wonderful weekend!!!

  19. chrystad72 says:

wow!! sounds awesome girl. What a rocking vacay. Bummer about the oats! thats weird that they took it away. ah well. The food looks amazing btw. I love grilled shrimp!!

I think its definently harder to workout outside than inside. Im not a huge runner but I noticed when I got my road bike awhile back the first few times I took it out it was ssoo much harder than my spin bike I was used to! what a difference.

I definently rock the spandex when i work out. To me, nothing gets me more motivated to hit the gym like a nice pair of spandex. hahah.

well anyways I hope you have an absolutely fantastic vacation!! It looks gorgeous there.

  20. MelindaRD says:

Too funny. My grandparents live in Boca too. We also always go to Seasons 52. I knew about it before it wound up there because I worked at the Olive Garden which is a Darden restaurant and so when the concept came out, I knew right away and was dying to try it. Since Darden HQ was in Orlando I knew other FL areas would get them soon. It was so nice because we always got my employee discount. I am glad to know someone else I know of out there has tried it too.
    Glad you are enjoying yourself.

  21. Erica says:

Glad the trip has been awesome so far!!! Makes me even more excited for our vacation in March. Yummy eats. I love the way the pizza was sliced/served. Enjoy the rest of the time chicky

  22. Jocelyn says:

Sounds like you are having a fab time!!!!!!!!!!! I love florida (especilly ft lauderdale)

When I stayed there for a week…we got a condo at lauderdale by the sea..such a pretty area 🙂

Hope the remainder of your time there is awesome!

  23. burpandslurp says:

Oh what an amazing trip! I would love to go to Florida…esp to Disney World!
And I’ve heard such good things about Season 52…Glad to know the hype was right!

  24. Melissa says:

I’m not gonna lie, as unforgiving as spandex can be, it’s really comfortable and convenient for working out (No shorts riding up, etc.)

Have fun in the Florida sunshine!

  25. Cara says:

Love Seasons 52! There’s one in Cherry Hill, NJ we’ve gone to when we visit family down there. Wish they had one in the Boston area!
