Some goodies and Running Tips!

Hey guys! How was your hump day? Mine was good! very beautiful weather and I was smiling so I can’t complain. the one thing I can complain about is that my body is just tired. Do you ever get in those exercise ruts, where maybe its overtraining or maybe you’re sore, maybe you are just tired, but your body just feels like not doing a thing. I think the combination of my HIIT training on the treadmill two days in a row (in the wrong sneakers) combined with some intense weight lifting on Monday has pushed my body beyond its limits. I woke up this morning and knew it was going to be an active rest day.

I want to share last nights dinner with you before I get into today! I went to Jason’s for a delicious grilled dinner
Grilled bbq chicken with grilled summer squash and sweet onions. Loved this dinner!

And a sweet potato. I am on such a sweet potato kick these days! I can’t get enough

I also whipped up a salad of baby romaine, carrots, strawberries (Jason loves fruit in salads) cherry tomatoes, artichoke hearts (!) and cucumbers

I am loving these artichoke hearts from Trader Joes. I just take them out of the freezer, throw them in a pan with some spray olive oil. So tender and delicious

This morning, I stopped on the way back to my apartment from Jason’s to get a coffee!

French Vanilla. 
Like I said, today was a active rest day to just give my body a much needed break. My workout consisted of 20 minutes easy walking on the treadmill up hill (ranging from 4% incline-12% incline at speeds 3.5-4) I was reading SELF magazine, so this flew by! I also did some yoga stretching, ab work and thats it! It was hard to really not give myself an intense workout, but I know my body needed it!

1/3 C oatbran cooked in water, 1 TBSP flaxseed meal 2 diced strawberries. (fresh!)

Mixed with TONS of cinnamon and a dollop of Maranatha
I had a free coupon for 1 jar. I haven’t tried this PB before (mainly because it runs about $6.00 a jar) and I am not hard to please when it comes to peanut butter. Since I had a coupon, I decided to take advantage and give it a try!

Verdict? SO incredibly creamy. I don’t know why its $6.00, maybe the peanuts are half gold? But I can tell that this is certainly a high quality peanut butter. It is almost velvety and rich tasting. I am treating this jar with TLC 🙂

For lunch, I assembled a wrap using my new mustard (see below)
Aioli garlic mustard sauce. I would call it just a mustard, its not really a sauce, per-se, but still DELICIOUS

This made my wrap! it was so good and creamy. Its a good thing I wasn’t doing any kissing after this wrap! I used garlic lovers hummus, red onion and my new mustard. It also had 3 oz herbed turkey breast, broccoli sprouts and baby spinach.

I had a simple side salad on the side packed with cherry tomatoes, broccoli, snap peas, baby carrots and romaine. Topped with balsamic vinegar

Time for some Running Tips!! The Boston Marathon is coming up this MONDAY, APRIL 19th. I am going to have some trouble getting back to my apartment on Monday, but thats a whole other story. I want to share some running tips with you in honor of the Boston Marathon coming up!

Head
Keep your head up–your eyes should be looking ahead. Keep your chin up and back, not dropped toward your chest or jutting out in front of you

Arms
Your legs do what your arms tell them to do so you want to arm swing to drive your legs forward in a straight line. You should be swinging your arms forward and back, not across your body. Keep your elbows bent at 90 degrees and cup your hands into loose fists with fingers lightly touching your palms

Torso
Run as if you were TALL, so your back is comfortable straight. Avoid leaning forward from your waist

Hips
Pointed straight ahead and upright, not tilted forward or back

Legs and Feet
Your feet should feel quick and light. You want to fee quite springy, as if you are just popping off the ground. Shorten your stride so your feet land directly underneath your body. and on your heel to nidfoot and push off through the ball of your foot.

Snackage I combined some of my peanut butter protein powder with 6oz greek yogurt

With Natures Path flax cereal

I also had a juicy (local!) apple

I tried to pair my apple with some AB, but the bottom of the jar had a very chalky texture, almost cakey, not creamy at all. No way this jar is being thrown out! I will find something to do it with, no worries!

Cut back on these foods if you are having GI problems (source)
  • Broccoli, melon, and bell peppers: These fruits and veggies contain gas forming, indigestible carbs that cause painful bloating mid run
  • Fiber fortified foods: The added fiber in breads, tortillas, yogurt, crackers and other foods can create a bulkiness in the colon, gas and loose stools
  • Ice Cream: Compared to other dairy, this sweet dessert is particularly high in lactose and can cause trouble for lactose intolerant people
  • NSAIDS: Aspirin, Ibuprofen and other nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs can irritate the stomach, and in extreme cases even cause intestinal bleeding
  • Juice and energy drinks: They contain a high concentration of carbs and when drunk before or mid run can cause stomach cramping
  • Caffeine: It can stimulate the intestinal tract. Cut back on caffeine sources like tea and coffee.

To end this post, I want to share something with you that Jason shared with me. Him and his father were eating breakfast at a diner in Boston this past weekend and this poem was framed and blown up on the wall. You have to read it out loud to get the full effect. It is so funny! (if anyone is offended by this, that is not my intention at all. I just thought some would get a good laugh from this!)


The Italian Who Lived In America…

One day Ima go to No Fock, Virginia to a bigga hotel. I go down to eat soma breakfast.

I tell the waitress I wanna two piss toast. She branga me only onea piss. I tell her I wanna two piss, she say go to the toilet, I say you no understand. I wanna two piss on my plate. She say you better no piss on the plate you Sonna Ma Bitch. I don’t even know the lady and she call me Sonna Ma Bitch.

Later I go to eat some lunch at Tyler Restaurant, the waitress, Virginia, bringa me a spoon, ana knife, but no fock. I tell her I wanna fock, Virginia. She tellsa me everybody wanna fock. I tell her you no understand, I wanna fock on the table. She say no fock Virginia on the table. You Sonna Ma Bitch. I don’t even know the lady and she calls me Sonna Ma Bitch and get the hell out of No Fock, Virginia.

So I go back to my room inna hotel, an there’s no sheet on my bed. I calla the manager ana tell him I wanna sheet. He tells me to go to the toilet. So I say you no understand, I wanna sheet on the bed. He say you better not sheet onna bed, you Sonna Ma Bitch. I don’t even know the man and he call me Sonna Ma Bitch.

I go to check out and the man at the desk, he say “peace to you”. I say piss onna you, too, you Sonna Ma Bitch. I go back to Italy!!!
