Good morning + happy Friday, friends! first and foremost I want to wish all of my Savage girls an amazing day and weekend at Fitness America in Vegas! I will be tuning in to the live broadcast to see your beauty, sass and rockin’ bodies!!!
First, I just want to say that when I go to the gym to workout, in no way am I a fashionista. For me, its more about practicality and comfort than style. I have been seeing the most bizarre outfits at the gym! (don’t get me wrong, I respect everyone’s choice to wear what they want when they want) but I just couldn’t imagine that some of these outfits would be comfortable. Then I saw an ad in this month’s Oxygen Magazine and I have a feeling I know where the outfits came from
I swear I have been seeing similar outfits to these where I work out. I am not talking about just matching tanks and pants, I have some of those from Lululemon, but I am talking about nearly nothing on top with all sorts of straps, buckles, rings and colors, matched with equally revealing or crazy pants. Now, I get that maybe this is ‘fashionable’ (or not, again I have no idea) but I just cannot seem to think this is comfortable to work out in! I pretty much rotate through some tank tops that I got for $10 at Forever 21 (they have great burn-out, racer back tanks!!) OR some Lululemon tanks. I always wear black pants or black capri’s on the bottom. Sometimes a baseball cap, sometimes not. Either way, I keep it simple and practical. thats just my style!
I have been obsessed with this salsa! I found it in the fridge and just loving it! It has a bit of black bean and corn in it, and its quite spicy, but not too spicy for me.
Mostly, I have been enjoying it on some salads and also use it as a dipper to whatever I am having for dinner whether that be chicken or fish. It gives it a little kick.
***Salsa is an awesome condiment to add tons of flavor for minimal calories!
Along with my salad and salsa, I had some shrimp! I just got about 6 oz from the fish department at Whole Foods (they were previously cooked, so they just looked like shrimp cocktail) I threw them in a skillet with some fresh garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, 4 diced mushrooms and some olive oil spray. Done in about 8 minutes! since they are already cooked, they just had to get hot all the way through, and let the flavors come together. This was an easy easy dinner!!
****Garlic, lemon and spices are a great way to add flavor to dishes for no calories! They are my go-to threesome! Well, this technically is my go-to threesome as well
On Tuesday, I enjoyed a delicious salad. It was extra delicious because I had previously cooked up a big batch of brussels sprouts and used some on this salad. I love cold roasted veggies on salads, so I have to say this was the star player. There is some grilled chicken and the usual suspect vegetables in there as well.
And just for you guys, I clear the magazines away before I snap the photo for the blog, but really, this is what it looks like.
Every Sunday, the Boston Globe has a magazine called, appropriately so, the Boston Globe Magazine. There is a column in the magazine that basically sets two people up on a blind date. They give a play by play of the date from ‘his’ side and ‘her’ side. I love reading this column, it so entertaining! Anyways, this past weekends ended like this:
Haha, I couldn’t help but laugh. I mean I feel a little bad for the guy! He hopes to meet up, while she…well she just wants nothing to do with him. Oh well
Yesterday, I started my day wth some oatmeal and eggwhites. It was my pre-gym fuel. I cooked up 1/2 C liquid egg whites and topped them with some fresh berries
Whole foods was all out of rolled oats, so I grabbed what looked the most like rolled whole oats which were these Irish Style Oats by Old Wessex Ltd
All I can say is, I may never go back to rolled oats! (ok, thats a lie) but these are SO good. They create that doughy, chewy factor that I always hope to get from rolled oats, but doesn’t happen that often. I don’t know if these oats absorb more water, or what, but they are so good!!!
I used lots of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice on my oatmeal and topped it over the berries and egg whites. Breakfast is served!
I then went to the gym after a bit for a triceps and chest workout. This workout always leaves my arms shaky by the end. The workout ends with triceps dips on a bench with my feet on a stbaility ball and I always have to break the set up in two parts to finish the desired number of reps. My goal is to get to that desired number of reps in 1 set!!
I came home and got right to making a protein shake. I use my magic bullet for a number of reasons
-
Its small
-
Its easy to clean
-
It blends smoothies/shakes very well
-
It makes the perfect size shake
-
Its easy clean up!
Cake batter protein, cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each xanthan + guar gums
Liquid vanilla Stevia
After I blend the shake, I just put on the topper and it becomes a cup! (no extra dishes!) Wow, I just realized I sound like an informercial hahaha. No, I am not giving away a magic bullet sorry
Here ya go, this is the REAL infomercial 🙂
Yum. So good!
Lunch was another cold veggie roasted salad!
With 1-3oz can of tuna mixed with mustard
I am getting my hair cut and colored today after work! I am so excited for the head massage color!! I am going darker. I usually go darker in the winter, so I am looking forward to this change. I am thinking like these:
Hope I can pull off that color!!
Have a great friday!
Question of the day: Do you color your hair, have you colored your hair, are you a risk taker in the hair salon?
